The titles for my work are perplexing at best. Many times I find that I don’t know where to start. Usually though what shines through, with my titles, is a combination of what my experience was like when I captured the image, who I was with, how I was feeling and then also I usually incorporate a goofy post perspecitve. This isn’t always the process. The image below is titled “Fruit Loops and Frosting,” look below for how this title was developed.

I’ve spent three summers living and working in Denali National Park in Central Alaska. My first summer in 2005 was from the middle of May until the beginning of August. It wasn’t until 2009 that I returned and was able to stay for the entire summer. The very first time I was able to experience the autumn colors in Denali was when I took this image. The vibrant oranges, reds, greens and yellows contrasted by the blue skies and snow capped peaks was an experience I will never forget. While riding into the park the bus driver told me, “it looks like a bowl of fruit loops out there,” I will never forget his simple yet utterly accurate metaphor for the park colors. When I saw the landscape above laid before me I knew I had found my own bowl of fruit loops with a clean layer of frosting on top. Not all of my images have such a direct path to their title but many times it’s experiences such as these that aid me in finding how I remember and experience an image after it has been captured. Thank you for visiting my site, I hope you enjoy all that is here to be seen. Silas
